Driving a vehicle takes a lot of focus! In addition to the operation of your vehicle, there are so many events happening outside in your field of view: Stop Signs, Traffic Lights, other drivers, pedestrians, bicycles, that’s a lot of moving things to navigate. Distracted Drivers can add eating, drinking, talking on the phone, texting and all sorts of other tasks that take focus off the vehicle and driving, and spend attention on things that can wait. The next time you are driving ask yourself: “Can this wait? Do I really need to do this right now? Is it worth the safety of myself and others?” Be safe out there and stay focused.
Be mindful that Media is ‘Everybody's Hometown' with regards to both drivers and pedestrians, we have areas of heavy pedestrian traffic around State Street and our more common sections of town that see high volumes of foot traffic. 'Everybody's Hometown' translates into additional safety for our small town character.
Pedestrians should also be mindful that 'Distracted Pedestrians' are common-place within town, especially at areas of heavy vehicular traffic at our intersections. Be mindful of your phone when crossing the street.
