Media Borough residents may recall receiving a doorhanger a couple weeks ago regarding ways to help control the mosquito population without the use of toxic pesticides. Now, why is this so important? Because there are numerous more effective ways to control mosquitoes.
Harmful pesticide sprays may not be as “safe”, “natural”, and “green” as they are marketed to be and do more harm than good. Mosquito pesticides are NOT “As safe as chrysanthemum flowers.”
Scientific studies show that toxic pesticides:
- Increase risk of cancer and neurotoxic effects.
- Poison pets, pollinators, and beneficial wildlife.
- Can be replaced by safer products and practices.
*Please also remember that the mosquito fogging application techniques private companies use drifts onto neighboring properties, sometimes quite a distance away, also negatively impacting your neighbors’ properties and health of their families.*
*Before hiring any pesticide application company, please ask what specific ingredients they will be using. Look up the Safety Data Sheets yourself so you will be an informed consumer and know the effects the chemicals will have on your health, your family’s health, your pets, your property, and wildlife.*
